Artistic dreaming
Young artists presented their creative reflection on the topic “Dream On” at the Spiritual Treasures of Ukraine Museum
The paintings presented at the exhibition are united by the topic of dreaming and dreams. Dreams give absolute freedom to people. Dreaming is like flying. Free from warnings, criticism, or fear, dreams visualize our secret desires, hopes, fears, and reflections of the unconscious. Immense space for spreading one’s wings is identical to art. The exhibition “Dream On” reveals the world where there is no time binding, and, therefore, there are absolutely no restrictions, only the art works in a form of dreamy view of the world.
The opening of the exhibition was accompanied by music from the Kyiv band Loreleia. Just like one of the Rhine Virgins, who lured sailors on the rocks with her beautiful singing, the rock band Loreleia took the visitors of the exhibition to the magical world of dreams. The musicians found their own style, which often earned them victory in different contests: BaRoQue-2011, People’s Tribute BB, The Best Performance of the Beatles Song.
Visitors of the exhibition “Dream On” will get a chance to see the paintings created by artists, who plunged into a long lasting “artistic dream”: Nadia Onyshchenko, Natalia Makieieva, Yevhenia Yakshyna, Kostiantyn Tereshchenko, Stanislav Zvolsky, Filip Sapronov, Lev Vavytsky, Iryna Kachkalda, Vladyslav Novakovsky, and others. By the way, Novakovsky in his works touches upon the most common association with sleep – flying. How many people can remember not only the admiration of the feeling of being elated in their dream, but also some certain parts of the fantasy? By combining realism of a figure and abstract background the artist conveys the impression of dreaming: balancing on the edge of real and unreal.
“When a thematic exhibition is organized, there is a danger of losing the harmony of the exposition due to the need to form a meaningful sequence. ‘Dream On,’ in my opinion, successfully avoided this problem and I got the impression that the art works were chosen primarily not by the concept, but rather by the visual criteria,” noted art critic Viktoria KUDRIAVTSEVA at the opening of the exhibition. “No restriction of topic is felt here. That’s right, since dreams don’t establish any framework. The paintings by Nadia Onyshchenko caught my attention. You don’t really see some definite images in them right away. Thin contours of figures on planes of colors really convey the mood of elusive dreams that quickly fade in our memory.”
“Dream On” features paintings from the project Slava Frolova-Group – all-Ukrainian cultural campaign, aimed at supporting young artists from Ukraine, forming healthy environment for the development of art. This project is carried out jointly by Charity Foundation for the Support and Development of Young Artists of Ukraine, Union of Young Artists, and a company, which organizes exhibitions.
The exhibition of young Ukrainian artists “Dream On” is open at the Spiritual Treasures of Ukraine Museum daily through September 2.
