Tulip-like flowers have already blossomed on its branches. The tree’s scientific name is Liriodendron tulipifera, coming from its lyre-like leaves.

The tree grows in the historic center of the city and, as the head of the Tourism Geography Subdepartment at Uzhhorod National University’s Geography Department Fedir Shandor told us, it is one of the region’s oldest exotic trees. By one account, the tree was planted by the renowned naturalist Istvan Laudon and his students. Laudon planted the unique Uzhhorod Arboretum, too.

There was a project a few years ago calling for the tulip tree to be cut down because it hindered the construction of a business center, but the community managed to nip these plans in the bud, so now everyone can enjoy its flowering.
