Koziatyn train station will revert to its original appearance

02 December, 00:00

The renovation of the Koziatyn railway station, a 19th century architectural monument, has finally started. The building, one of the finest railway structures of the Russian Empire, was built in 1888-90 by the prominent architect Valerii Kulykovsky, with the engineer Oleksandr Kobieliev acting as master builder. It cost the state treasury 292,144 gold rubles. Once completed, it had magnificent oval halls with graceful decorations, and was furnished with beautiful furniture.

Now the building’s first ever renovation is underway. During its first phase, which will last until this year’s end, a part of the transit hall will be reconstructed, and new, modern paved platforms, paved with tiles, will replace the old ones. In total, the work will take 12 months, after which the restored railway station will revert to its original appearance from 120 years ago.
