Prima Donna of Vienna Opera To Sing in Kyiv

Victoria Lukyanets, celebrated operatic prima donna, has been performing on key theatrical stages the world over for some years now. Nevertheless, the singer always tries to find a couple of days to visit her homeland. This time Ms. Lukyanets met with President Kuchma and promised that before long she will not only give a solo concert in Kyiv but also bring one of the three tenors (Placido Domingo, Jose Carreras, or Luciano Pavarotti) on tour with her.

“I am proud to be Ukrainian and to have learned to sing in Ukraine. The fact that I am invited to perform on leading operatic stages is evidence that Ukrainian operatic art is highly rated in the word,” Interfax- Ukraine quotes Ms. Lukyanets as saying. Victoria Lukyanets tours many countries with a vast repertoire. In the Vienna State Opera she performs bel canto parts in Vildo de Chamonix , The Puritans , La Traviata , Rigoletto , The Love Potion , The Barber of Seville , and The Magic Flute , to name but a few.

“On the day of the performance I try not to talk much, since speaking puts even more strain on vocal cords than singing. Exercise helps me stay in good shape. It is good for my voice and helps keep a slim figure. Good looks are as important for a singer as a strong voice. Competition in the operatic world is very strict. Many female sopranos are heavyset and lose because of this. Today stage directors require the singers to be flexible and fully convey the dramatic impact of the play. With that in mind, one should be able to perform delicately textured pieces. Those who fail to meet these requirements are ousted by new singers.” Thus keep track of The Day ’s billboard.
