TWO RIDERS

We have been accustomed to the oft-used horse image since our childhood years. These animals have accompanied the mankind for centuries. Still, few people avoid shock when first meeting a horse in person and realizing how different the image and reality are. The size, grandeur, and temper of the domesticated giants prevent many of us from fearlessly befriending them. However, some chosen humans experience horses as a means of exploring the world, communication partners and the best recreation providers. The famous Kyiv artist Oleksandr Levich is one of such people.

“Dynamication” is Levich’s personal project dedicated to the equine world aesthetics. From time immemorial, horses have been humans’ faithful helpers, partners, friends... It looks like the horse will remain the man’s best friend forever. After one has discovered the world of this truly sublimely romantic friendship, they cannot live without it anymore. “Dynamication” is a personal picturesque reflection of the artist’s life beside horses, or even his life with them. The works are based on real scenes, allowing the series’ vast canvas to show rampant, overwhelming dynamics of these beautiful and handsome animals.

Levich was born in Kyiv in 1963, graduating from the Painting Faculty of the Kyiv State Arts Institute in 1987 and actively exhibiting his works both in Ukraine and abroad ever since. His paintings are owned by the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine as well as corporate and private collectors in Ukraine, Russia, Germany, Sweden and other countries. Kyiv-based Levich became a member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine in 1990. The new series brings his new creative direction forward, making the artist look more open and closer to the audience.

“For everyone, the most important world is within them. A canvas or picture is just a way to this world. One learns to see, not just look, when traveling this way. I cover my painting’s content with the canvas. The painting is a communication message, the question is always deeper than the answer, and the answer is for the audience to find, while my picture will only lead them through their own thoughts. The luxury of pleasurably communicating with oneself is the most valuable thing in the fine arts,” Levich says.

“Dynamication” reveals desire, strength, temper and transient nature of life that exists around us, accompanies us every day, the style and way of our everyday life notwithstanding. And no matter how we try to cheat it sometimes by traveling to some sparsely populated shores or switching off our mobile phones, the time is still relentlessly fast. Only having felt this internal dynamics, recognized it as the integral rhythm of human existence, and rediscovered oneself in it, one can really ride tall in the saddle.
