Show lesson about the Zaporozhets

Last Monday the members of Lviv’s auto fan club ZAZ-Kozak celebrated the 45th anniversary of the first Ukrainian car, the ZAZ-965. The festivities were attended by guests from various Ukrainian cities, who arrived in their antique Zaporozhets cars. An exhibit took place of ZAZ-965 models — cabriolets, sports models, big foots, and pickups.

For children and adults the information department of the regional State Traffic Inspectorate organized a lesson on traffic rules. To help participants master the rules, they were presented in the form of mini-concert numbers. The audience especially liked the merry and witty showman, Levko Durko. For example, an attempt was made to beat the record of ZAZ-965’s seating capacity. Young residents of Lviv topped last year’s record by stuffing 22 children into the mini auto. A pleasant surprise was a giant 45-kg cake in the shape of a Zaporozhets, which was enjoyed by visitors of the festivities.

An open Ukrainian championship of antique Zaporozhets cars will take place on the weekend. The contest is pegged to the 75th anniversary of the first Grand Prix races held along the route of the famous “Lviv Triangle” (where the European car-racing elite competed since 1930). The competition program will feature the “Lviv Labyrinth” race, a tourist rally past the castles of Lviv oblast, called “The Golden Horseshoe”, the Lviv Triangle race, an Olympic mountain race, and stunt driving.
