A SCENE FROM STOP REVOLUTION

For the first time a Ukrainian feature film will be screened at the prestigious 42nd Karlovy Vary International Film Festival, which will take place on June 29-July 7. According to the Category A classification of the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAPF), the Karlovy Vary festival is one of the world’s 12 best. More than 220 feature and documentary films are featured in this year’s competition. Nine are world premieres, while 38 are international or European premieres. The three most important sections of the festival program — Official Selection — Competition, Documentary films in Competition, and East of the West — Films in Competition — will introduce the best films from among several hundred works.

Ukraine’s submission Stop Revolution is directed by Ivan Kravchyshyn. The film is a completely re-shot and re-cut version of Prorvemos (We Will Break Through) whose premiere took place in March 2006. This film, which was not widely shown in Ukraine, recounts the tragic story of a man who witnesses his son’s death twice. The screenplay is by Viktor Leshyk and Ivan Kravchyshyn. The film, shot by Mykhailo Kretov, Anatolii Sakhno, and Andrii Lysetsky features a cast including Mykola Oliinyk, Oleksii Bondarev, Oleksii Vertynsky, Lev Somov, and Viktoria Smacheliuk.

Stop Revolution is part of the East of the West section. Fifteen films from Europe and former Soviet countries are competing this year. The Ukrainian film will be screened on July 5 and 6 in local theaters in Karlovy Vary.
