A year after the terrorist incident, Belgium remembers victims of the attacks on Brussels International Airport and the capital’s subway which were committed by three suicide bombers. The attendees included the royal couple, survivors of the attack, rescue personnel, and airport employees. The airport’s manager read out the names of 16 citizens of 7 different nations who lost their lives there a year ago. King of the Belgians Philippe laid a wreath on behalf of the entire nation at a memorial outside the airport’s departure hall. The ceremony continued at the Maelbeek subway station, where a suicide bombing cut short 16 lives. Other planned events of the day include the royal couple unveiling a memorial sculpture honoring victims of the terrorist attacks outside the headquarters of the European Commission in Brussels.
