Double Golden Victory at Championship

European Indoor Athletics Championship closed on Sunday March 3 in Gothenburg, Sweden. On the last day of competition Ukrainian athletes won two gold medals: in race for 800 meters and in triple jump. Ukrainian athlete Natalia Lupu was the fastest in the race for 800 meters and ran the distance in 2 minutes 00.26 seconds. The first three laps of the race she was the last of the group but in the final lap she beat her rivals and won. Silver medal went to Russian athlete Elena Kotulskaya and bronze medal – to Marina Arzamasova from Belarus. The fifth to finish the distance was a 20-year-old Olha Liakhova from Kremenchuk.

The Ukrainian athlete won the triple jump gold medal with the result 14.88 meters, which became the best result of the season in the world. The silver medal went to Russian Irina Gumenyuk (14.30 meters), Italian Simona La Mantia took the third with 14.26 meters.

In running for 60 meters Ukrainian athlete Maria Remen won silver medal. Hanna Melnychenko won bronze in women’s pentathlon.
