Overall 45 Ukrainian Army soldiers, who were injured during fights in the east of Ukraine, were sent from Dnipropetrovsk to Polish resorts. This is the first group of soldiers, accompanied by two doctors from the oblast center, which departed to receive treatment. As deputy head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council Volodymyr Pavlov said, the troops will undergo treatment in sanatoriums Ladek-Zdroj and Szczawno-Zdroj (Lower Silesia), which specialize in helping patients with locomotorium injuries. The treatment of soldiers became possible thanks to the agreement between the oblast council with the authorities of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship and resort managers of this Polish region.

In particular, the troops are to be treated with mineral waters and healing mountain air. Up-to-date equipment and qualified doctors are at their service. As Pavlov stated, all treatment expenses were covered by the Polish side, and travel and meals during the journey, by Ukraine. “Our doctors did their best to rescue the injured soldiers, preserve their lives and health. And we decided to entrust the leading Polish health resorts with further rehabilitation and recovery. This country was the first to offer us friendly help and is a reliable partner of Dnipropetrovsk oblast. And not only in implementation of mutually beneficial projects, but also when we need urgent help. On its part, Dnipropetrovsk oblast is ready to help our Polish friends whenever necessary,” said head of Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Council Yevhen Udod.

For many of the soldiers it will be their first time in Europe. Men hope that they will be completely mended in Poland, and some will be prepared for new surgeries. The Oblast Council notifies that five children of refugees from Donetsk and Luhansk oblasts have been on rehabilitation in a Lower Silesian resort since early November. It is planned to send a second group of children to Poland early in 2015.
