Beethoven, Lysenko, Scriabin…

Last weekend the “Europiano” was heard at Euromaidans in Odesa, Dnipropetrovsk, Vinnytsia, Ternopil, whereas in Mykolaiv everyone willing played the keyboard – local Euromaidan activists could not find a piano. In particular, in Prymorsky Boulevard in Odesa well-known Ukrainian pianists Yurii Dyky and Serhii Shkolnyk, as well as students of the conservatoire and the leader of Odesa Right Sector played an instrument painted in yellow and blue. The actions ended with performance of the state anthem to music accompaniment, Viktoria SYBIR reports from Odesa.

In Dnipropetrovsk the concert was preceded by communication with Vitalii Klitschko. More than 2,000 residents of the city took part in People’s Viche, at which the leader of UDAR Party delivered a speech. There were several incidents during his visit to Dnipropetrovsk. At first, during the recording of his interview to local TV channel bomb threat was reported, and later two young men, who were going to pour brilliant green and throw eggs at the leader of the opposition, were caught at the meeting. The provocateurs were detained by the self-defense unit of the Euromaidan and taken to the police. They reported that they were promised 300 hryvnias each for this hooligan action.

“Wherever I come, there are bomb threats everywhere. I came to Poltava – a bomb threat was reported there. I was giving an interview here, when the police was called – a bomb threat was reported again. I am appealing to everyone: today it is important not to be indifferent, it is very important to unite,” Klitschko noted. At a press conference he said that he refused from the permanent dwelling residence in Germany, to take all questions about this speculative topic off the table. Klitschko thinks that the incumbent head of state must resign, and that there should be early presidential elections in Ukraine.

The participants of the action, inspired by Klitschko’s speech, marched in file across the center of the city and headed to the square near the building of the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast State Administration. There they were met by reinforced cordons of interior troops and Berkut riot police, but there no violent scenario followed. Instead the participants of the People’s Viche took part in all-Ukrainian action “Instrument of Freedom.” The activists brought a piano painted into colors of the state flag of Ukraine to the square. The music instrument was provided by one of the art studios in Dnipropetrovsk, and businessmen helped to transport it. To the accompaniment of the piano the participants of the action sang songs from the repertoire of Okean Elzy and Viktor Tsoi, as well as the state anthem of Ukraine. In the evening the performers from the capital’s Euromaidan joined the action in Dnipropetrovsk.
