For the first time in her career, Elina Svitolina ascended to the Top 10 strongest female tennis players of the world

Women’s Tennis Association released an updated ranking of the strongest tennis players in the world, in which Ukrainian Elina Svitolina occupies 10th place. Our athlete has 3,890 points, and she has risen three lines up compared to the past week’s ranking – from the 13th place.

In general, the so-called “champion’s road” rating, which takes into account only the points of the current season, our athlete takes second place behind the winner of Australian Open – Serena Williams from the US.

It is the first time in her career that Svitolina ascended to the Top 10 strongest female tennis players of the world. Moreover, she is the first Ukrainian woman in history to be among the ten strongest. Of Ukrainian male players only Andrii Medvediev was able to show a better result in singles – he had occupied the 4th place in the men’s ATP ranking.

Notably, on Saturday Ukraine leading player Elina Svitolina won the final match against the famous Denmark’s Caroline Wozniacki at the prestigious WTA Tour Premier Series – Dubai Duty Free Championships (UAE) with the prize pool of 2,666,000 dollars. The “golden match” lasted 1 hour 28 minutes and ended with the score of 6:4, 6:2.

Immediately after the victory Svitolina was interviewed about her impressions of the tournament: “This is a very special victory for me, I am very happy. It is always difficult to play against Caroline, she never gives up. It was a fantastic match, I am very glad that I won. It was incredibly difficult. I worked for many years and I am pleased that it has started to bear fruit in the form of trophies. I am very happy, and I hope that Justine Henin watched the match on TV. I have so many emotions to share, I just cannot express them with words. I want to thank the public that supported me. I enjoyed playing in this tournament.”

Thus, the Kharkivite Elina Svitolina won her 12th consecutive victory and the 17th victory since the start of the season.
