Alley of hydrangeas from diplomats

On August 18 the state enterprise “Directorate General for Foreign Missions Service” together with the NGO “Capital Initiatives,” whose president is Ihor Dobrutsky, organized a friendly event for the ambassadors of foreign countries accredited in Ukraine. The meeting took place in an informal setting in the estate of the Dobrutsky family. “I am a graduate of the Diplomatic Academy and the Head of Diplomatic Academy Alumni Association. We have always had such connection with the Parliamentary Committee and with Directorate General for Foreign Missions Service. This time we wanted to show Ukrainian life to the representatives of the foreign missions,” said Ihor Dobrutsky to The Day. Dobrutsky and his wife showed their garden, laid in 2006, to the ambassadors and offered them to participate in master classes in towel embroidering, motanka dolls making, and making varenyky.

The activities were accompanied by the Veriovka Choir and later the band Toporkestra. Ihor Dobrutsky, who is also a chairman of the Organizing Committee of the all-Ukrainian Festival “Parade of Embroidered Shirts-2013” to be held in Kyiv on Independence Day, presented the program and the symbol of this year’s festival – the sculpture Wonder Bird of the size of three and a half to four meters. The sculpture was painted by masters from Drohobych following the sketch of a young Drohobych artist Sofia Boiko.

The guests also had an opportunity to plant some trees and shrubs in the garden. Eleven diplomats were eager to do some gardening work that day. Ambassador of India to Ukraine Rajiv Kumar Chander together with his wife and his daughter planted paradise apple-tree, the other ambassadors planted hydrangea bushes. “Planting a tree leaves a good memory and it’s a nice tradition, besides, it is your own contribution to the environment protection,” Eynulla MADATLI, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Ukraine, told The Day.
