The Entire World is Shakespeare: six music metamorphoses

On December 26 the premiere of six music metamorphoses will take place on the stage of Kyiv Municipal Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet for Children and Youth. Director Vitalii Palchykov called his new play The Entire World is Shakespeare. This is the world of life and death, love, passion, romantics, power, and betrayal. From the mysterious world of imagination of Romeo and Juliet with Tchaikovsky music, a shadow play, through the passionate feelings of the heroes of operas Falstaff, Othello, Macbeth, Hamlet, composers Verdi, Thomas to opera-ballet transformations of Romeo and Juliet by Prokofiev and Gounod.

Shakespeare’s works have many times attracted the attention of the workers of art. In particular, in the genre of ballet the first place belongs to Romeo and Juliet on Prokofiev’s music. Many choreographers were inspired by this classic plot. In particular, well-known Kyiv choreographer Valerii Kovtun together with his conductor Oleksii Baklan back in 2002 staged a play which still gathers full-houses. The audience is attracted by the atmosphere of passions that are whirling on the stage and are interchanged with full of lyricism love duets, “told” by the artistes in the language of ballet and plastic arts.

In The Entire World is Shakespeare director Palchykov decided to interpret the oeuvre of the genius classic in a new way.
