Let us recall that the Globe Theater of London was founded as early as 1599! It was maintained by Shakespeare’s playing company, the Lord Chamberlain’s Men. The theater burnt down in 1613 and was rebuilt, its second incarnation surviving until 1642. The modern Globe was built in 1997 near the spot where the old theater had stood. It staged only Shakespeare’s plays and did much to popularize the classic’s works during the Elizabethan age.
