A parade of vernissages

The gallery Shcherbenko Art Centre has presented an installation by Maria Kulykovska. It involved a performance of the author. The audience saw a very candid manifestation of postmodern art. The work was executed in a very simple manner, featuring a huge rectangular of soil scattered on linoleum, on which the author, wearing an orange dress, was lying and yelling into a hole dug in the ground.

What was that? A requiem for the dead or modern performance of Mahler’s Song of the Earth? This abstraction was touchingly humane, arousing a variety of thoughts and associations among the audience.

The curators of the exhibit noted that the project “stimulates the intuitive-sensual way of getting familiarized with art, because it does not suggest any concrete verbal manifesto, like a title or concept.”

Another vernissage, launched on that evening in the same yard in Mykhailivska Street, was called Replication. The works were created by Vasyl Bazhai. The artist is an expert in coloring. The tones of the warm sea, green grove – what can be more pleasing to the eye? The artist’s concept is as follows: his works are based on art, science, and philosophy. Vasyl generously covers his canvases with colors – with a very thick and maximally expressive coat.
