Cinema of Israel: award-winning films will be shown in Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk

26 June, 11:44

This year, audiences in Kyiv, Odesa, Lviv, and Dnipropetrovsk will see five films which represent different genres, but have fame and awards in common. The Molodist Festival is a co-organizer of these showings, held in cooperation with the Embassy of Israel in Ukraine.

The cinema week will open on June 26 at the Cinema Cultural Center “Kyiv,” which will host showing of Maya Kenig’s movie Off White Lies. This “tearful comedy” tells the story of a complicated effort to build relationships between parents and children as well as the family and the outside world. Complicated reality of Israeli-Palestinian relations is revealed in Yuval Adler’s film Bethlehem which is a political thriller. This film won an award at the Venice Festival.

Guy Nattiv and Erez Tadmor’s road movie Magic Men will take us along meandering Greek paths as we accompany its characters: an elderly father and his Hasid son.
Reshef Levi’s film Hunting Elephants has become popular far beyond Israel not only due to its plot’s twists and turns, but to a great extent because of its 12-year-old protagonist who forces the viewer to empathize with difficult turns of his life.

Documentary cinema is represented by Dror Moreh’s The Gatekeepers, in which six former heads of the Israeli intelligence services share their memories of the Six Day War, which has long since become history.

The opening of the festival will have director of Off White Lies Maya Kenig and actor Gur Bentwich as guests of honor.
