Priceless treasure is published in Dnipropetrovsk

The collection of the Dnipropetrovsk Art Museum, which marked its centennial past year, today counts for over 9,000 works of painting, sculpture, graphics, and items of decorative and applied art of the 16th-21st centuries, which give a bright notion of the versatility of kinds, genres, and styles of pictorial art. The museum is storing Ukrainian, West European, and Oriental works. It can boast works by outstanding artists of the world level: Volodymyr Borovykovsky, Ivan Shishkin, Ivan Aivazovsky, Isaac Levitan, Konstantin Korovin, Valentin Serov, Ilya Repin, Arkhip Kuindzhi, Filipp Maliavin, Vladimir Makovsky, Maria Bashkirtseva, Kiriak Kostandi, Davyd Burliuk, Borys Hryhoriev, and many others. The collection preserves the unique icons of the Cossack time and numerous works by masters of the famous Petrykivka decorative painting: Paraska Pavlenko, Tetiana Pata, Nadia Bilokin, Vasyl Sokolenko, and Fedir Panko.

The museum items have become a kind of a calling card of Ukrainian culture in the world. They represent in a worthy way our culture heritage abroad. To the important date, with the purpose of highlighting the exhibition, popularizing, and enlightenment activity of the art museum in the fullest possible way, the Dnipropetrovsk Oblast Universal Scientific Library named after the First Slavonic Teachers Saints Cyril and Methodius jointly with the employees of the museum created a scholarly-bibliographic reference book Priceless Treasure. To 100th anniversary of the Dnipropetrovsk Art Museum. The publication includes a list of stationary and traveling exhibits of the museum, starting with 1965 till present day. It presents all information that has been found, however, it is not absolutely exhaustive.

“The work on the reference book has lasted for almost a year. The information was gathered both by our archivists, and the archivists of the oblast library. The library itself funded the book, which has been published with a pressrun of up to 100 copies,” head of the Dnipropetrovsk Art Museum Tetiana SHAPARENKO told The Day.

The material of the reference book is presented in chronological order, with the purpose to show the development of the museum and the directions of its activity in the fullest and most comprehensible way.
