Fatherland Defender’s Day. 1922: The All-Union Central Executive Committee adopts a decree on the confiscation of church values and their transfer to the famine relief fund, thus launching a campaign of plunder and demolition of churches.

1927: The Council of People’s Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR resolves to help nomadic Gypsies switch to a settled lifestyle of farmers.

1944: The State Defense Committee of the USSR adopts a decree on the reconstruction of the Vladimir Lenin Dnipro Hydroelectric Station.

1944: The Central Committee of the CP(B)U of Ukraine and the Council of People’s Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR adopt a decree “On Employment, Vocational Training, and Living and Working Conditions of the Invalids of the Great Patriotic War.”

1967: Writer Oleksandr Korniichuk and poet Pavlo Tychyna are conferred the title “Hero of Socialist Labor” by the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.
