THE MAGIC OF ODD DATES

Gallery 36 received its simple name from the number on the building housing it on Andriyivsky uzviz and has now celebrated its fourth anniversary. Nothing serious about the date and such dates are not generally celebrated. Yet on that occasion the gallery was packed with visitors — had in its four years. The important artists, journalists, and diplomats. Nothing pompous, just a friendly get- together, a chance to meet and talk. Remarkably, such small talk often begets the most interesting ideas and extraordinary projects, and even more remarkably, such ideas and projects are subsequently implemented. One of the factors here is the relaxed atmosphere dominant at the gallery, courtesy of its small staff headed by Oleksandr Mylovzorov, a noted Ukrainian painter. He is not only talented, but also very daring creatively, a reputed reckless experimenter. This, actually, draws to him other like-minded gifted personalities. No one attaches any importance to how many displays the gallery has thing is that each was anything but mediocre, and 36 has come to be regarded as a certificate of quality in the capital artistic world. It spells true style and is really in. It is Andriyivsky uzviz’s trendsetter if you will. And well it should be, reports The Day’s Hanna SHEREMET.
