A Romanian version of Stanislav Kulchytsky’s book Why Did He Destroy Us? , one of the books from The Day s Library Series, will soon come off the presses. The translation was requested by the Ukrainian Embassy in Romania. This will be the first scholarly publication on the Ukrainian Holodomor of 1932-33 to be circulated in Romania’s official circles, parliament, influential civic organizations, research centers, universities, and central and regional libraries.

The Day ’s editorial offices recently received a letter from Markian Kulyk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Ukraine to Romania, announcing that the Romanian edition of Prof. Stanislav Kulchytsky’s book will be launched during a ceremony commemorating the 75th anniversary of the Holodomor. This event, which will be organized by the Ukrainian Embassy, will take place in the Romanian parliament on July 1.

As part of the Holodomor remembrance events in Romania, there will be a photo exhibit entitled “The Unknown Genocide against the Ukrainians” and a roundtable entitled “The Holodomor of 1932-33: The Need for International Condemnation.” Romania’s parliamentarians, including the heads of both houses of parliament, members of the two houses’ Foreign Relations Committees, and the parliamentary Group for Friendship with Ukraine, as well as local leaders, foreign diplomatic corps, distinguished scholars, historians, and political, civic, and cultural figures have been invited to take part in these events.

An invitation has also been extended to Larysa Ivshyna, the editor of The Day , who oversaw the editing and publication of the Russian edition of Prof. Kulchytsky’s book entitled Pochemu ON NAS unichtozhal? In his letter Ambassador Kulyk writes, “Considering the leading role your newspaper has played in elucidating this theme and the fact that you are the author of the foreword to S. Kulchytsky’s book, please consider the possibility of participating in the above-mentioned measures.”

Dr. Stanislav Kulchytsky and Dr. Vasyl Marochko will be the main speakers.
