1669: Demian Mnohohrishny is elected Hetman of Left-Bank Ukraine in Hlukhiv.

1811: Date of birth of Rev. Anton Mohylnytsky, Ukrainian author, public figure, and enlightener.

1866: A Russian public library (currently: the National Parliamentary Library) is founded in Kyiv.

1919: The RSFSR signs the Peace Treaty of Brest, thus recognizing Ukraine’s independence.

1945: A regional state art gallery opens in Lviv.

1947: The first 72,000 kW power unit starts generating at the Lenin Hydropower Station on the Dnipro, previously destroyed by the Nazi invaders.
