“I wish you to stay the leading Ukrainian newspaper”
First impressions of our readers as Den/The Day presents its books at the Publishers’ Forum in LvivThe Day reported that the largest book event of the year, the 11th Publishers’ Forum in Lviv, attended by writers and publishers from Ukraine, Austria, Australia, Albania, Belarus, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Italy, Iceland, Canada, Germany, Macedonia, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, the US, Hungary, Finland, Croatia, Switzerland, Sweden, and the Czech Republic.
Andrii TROKHYMOVYCH, Rivne:
“I bought Ukraine Incognita. TOP 25 not for myself, but for my nephew, who was born in Kolomyia and is now a first-year student at the Kyiv Polytechnic. Despite his young age of 18, he participated in all the Euromaidan events, and is overall a Ukrainian nationalist. He was the first to raise the Ukrainian flag over the so-called ‘Yolka,’ [the infamous New Year’s Tree, erected on Yanukovych’s orders in Independence Square. – Ed.], accompanied, by the way, by a boy from Luhansk. So, my nephew, being a knowledgeable modern youth, loves books of this kind, published in Den’s Library series, and I bought your publication as a gift for him.”
Oleh HRYNIV, Professor, Doctor of Philosophy:
“I am Den’s subscriber because it is the best analytical newspaper in Ukraine. It has no equals, at least for now. I have long been your subscriber, both during my Kyiv period and now that I work in Lviv. I have many books from Den’s Library in my own library and thank you very much for these books. In passing, I would like to congratulate Den on its 18th anniversary. I wish Larysa Ivshyna and all the team to succeed, achieve new heights, and thus stay the leading Ukrainian newspaper!”
Ihor DERZHKO, Doctor of Philosophy:
“Den has a unique place among the print media, as it is, on the one hand, a newspaper recording all the events taking place in Ukraine, Europe, and the world. On the other hand, this is a newspaper that keeps track of all the intellectual and cultural events. Every important event gets covered in this newspaper, reviewed and commented by various intellectuals, scholars, and professionals. Thirdly, the newspaper publishes materials that could have found a place in reputable research journals. Therefore, I keep the paper on file since its publication started, with almost all issues extant. I cut a lot of articles from my second copy for my scrapbook folders, and recommend this newspaper both to high school students and university students, to professional researchers and professors and those who have research as a hobby. Overall, Den is unique: amid the political troubles, during the formation of the dictatorship of Viktor Yanukovych and his clique, the newspaper did not change its direction and kept up criticism, publishing articles that any other newspaper would have been afraid to touch. In particular, it covered terror of the 1920s to the 1950s, the Holodomor, the Sixtiers’ activities, and the Ukrainian Insurgent Army’s history. Therefore, the newspaper is in my opinion, the number one in the intellectual field of Ukraine, and so I love, honor, and respect it!”
Vasyl MELNYK, journalist from Ivano-Frankivsk:
“I am subscribed to Den because it is, in my opinion, one of the wisest newspapers. This publication is for intellectuals. I like your publication’s restraint and optimism, which inspires hope for something better. This is the most important thing for me! I bought Ukraine Incognita. TOP 25 here at the booth, and own all issues of Den’s Library, because I am a fan of your newspaper from the first day of its publication.”
Oleh SYDOR, senior research fellow at the Institute of Ethnology, art critic:
“I have a lot of books from Den’s Library. I am not a subscriber, but buy the newspaper regularly. I have a great interest in Den as its materials are worth reading. It is important that Den publishes such materials that will not lose relevance in the near future. In connection with the 18th anniversary of the newspaper I wish it to stay as young forever. I wish you to keep your content quality at the present high levels. I also wish all of us to open eyes and light our minds on reading Den, similarly to people who open their eyes on getting-up.”
