The results of the Second Kyiv Contest of Innovation Projects “Strategy” were announced recently. The purpose of this contest for school and university students is to instill strong will in the young, inspire them to implement their ideas, and give them an opportunity to reveal themselves and make first steps in business environment. Contestants submit projects for the city in three categories: “Electronic City,” “Green City,” and “Hospitable City.” The jury selects finalists (there have been more than 20 of them this year), who present their projects before experts and the audience. The press service of the contest informed The Day that the jury includes deputy head of the Kyiv City State Administration Ruslan Kramarenko (who actually initiated the contest), head of the Educational Initiatives Foundation Oleksandr Kardakov, Kyiv’s chief architect Serhii Tselovalnyk, and director general of the Expert magazine Oleksandr Halibin.

This year, a project by university student Mykola Hilka was announced to be the winner in the “Green City” category. Kramrenko told The Day that “last year this young man has also won the first prize, but as a school student in the ‘Hospitable City’ category. He offered putting QR codes on museums, monuments, etc. We are going to start implementing this the next week. This year, his project of an IT park won. He offered to install monuments to Steve Jobs and Bill Gates and provide free Wi-Fi connection there. I, as a jury member, offered to add a sculpture of Viktor Hlushkov, founder of the Institute of Cybernetics at the Academy of Sciences and author of the computer ‘Kyiv,’ which was designed in his lab. In order to implement this idea, we do not need to have a new park built, but just get an approval. The best option would be the Kyiv Polytechnic Institute Park, since this is the main theme of this university. At the moment, we need to find a sponsor who would pay for the making of monuments.”

After Kramarenko shared the news on his Facebook page, Dr. Hlushkov’s daughter responded. She wrote that it was her father’s 90th anniversary this year. “Of course, we are going to look for opportunities to at least partially start the park project this year,” added Kramarenko in response. And Vira Hlushkova, the scientist’s wife, said: “It is very pleasant to hear about this initiative, especially since his 90th birthday anniversary is celebrated this year. And there are prototypes of personal computers ‘Peace,’ created by Dr. Hlushkov’s team in the period from 1964 to 1969. Today, a decree on marking his 90th anniversary is considered at the appropriate committee on Bankova Street. In August or September, we want to hold the Academician Hlushkov Avenue holiday. At the moment, a letter with a proposal to hold this holiday, signed by the director of the Hlushkov Institute of Cybernetics, member of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Serhiechko is considered by the head of Holosiivsky district administration.”
