Kyrylo Karabyts becomes the General Music Director of the German National Theater

A well-known Ukrainian maestro has been officially presented as the new Music Director of the Deutsche Nationaltheater and the Principal Conductor of the Staatskapelle in Weimar. The Ukrainian conductor will start to fulfill his duties in the season 2016-17 and will work on the position for three years.

At the ceremony in Weimar Kyrylo Karabyts promised that in his activity he will first and foremost seek a culture exchange between the East and the West. Apart from that, the new general music director of the Weimar Theater takes interest in cooperation with modern composers and soloists that specialize in new music, reportedly by German channel MDR.

It will be reminded that Kyrylo Karabyts is one of the most successful Ukrainian conductors who have made a career in the West. He has cooperated with Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra as its first conductor and chief conductor, won the title of the Conductor of the Year of the Royal Philharmonic Society, worked on the projects with Cleveland Orchestra, Philadelphia Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, RAI National Symphony Orchestra, Strasbourg Philharmonic Orchestra, Orchestre National de France, National Orchestra of Belgium, Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra, Oslo Philharmonic, Residence Orchestra of I, CULTURE. This season, apart from working as the music director of Deutsches Nationaltheater & Staatskapelle Weimar, Karabyts will make a debut at German Opera of Berlin and Stuttgart State Opera.

In Weimar Karabyts will make his debut with a new version of the opera The Mastersingers of Nuremberg by Richard Wagner which is scheduled for November.
