The best Ukrainian athlete of October and November 2014 according to the National Olympic Committee (NOC), Oleh Verniaiev won the all-around gold at the Gymnastics World Cup event held in Glasgow (Scotland). Our gymnast showed the best result in four out of six disciplines, getting 91.598 points. He was at his best with the parallel bars, which brought him 15.733 points. The second place went to Japanese athlete Yusuke Tanaka (89.865 points), and the third was won by American gymnast John Orozco with 86.865 points.

Let us recall that Verniaiev won a World Cup tournament in Stuttgart just a week before the Glasgow meet.

The NOC is calling him one of the most promising Ukrainian gymnasts. He has already become the world and European champion in a separate exercise on the uneven bars since this year started. The NOC leadership has congratulated the athlete and his personal coach Hennadii Sartynsky on the occasion of his good performance, and wished him a sure path to new victories on the way to the Rio de Janeiro Olympic Games.

“Verniaiev’s good results come from his hard work; more generally, they testify to the Ukrainian gymnastics’ high class,” Ukraine’s national artistic gymnastics team’s coach Leonid Spektorov commented for The Day. “He is still gaining, his performances are really impressive, and he is beginning to prepare for the Olympics to be held in Rio de Janeiro, which he has a relatively good chance of winning if he gets to compete there. In all-around events, Verniaiev is among the best in the world. Frankly speaking, when he competes, his results depend less on his athletic skills and more on the skill and honesty of his judges.”
