Museums throughout the world are holding a flash mob on this day. This is the only day in year when it is allowed to take a selfie in the background of your favorite work of art free of charge. To take part in the Selfie Day, you should come to a museum, take a selfie in the background or next to a museum item and publish it on a social network, such as Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, with the hashtag #MuseumSelfie and to tag the museum where the photo was taken.

It will be reminded that this international day was founded by the European team of the museum employees of the Culture Themes. In Ukraine the holiday was supported three years ago by the Bohdan and Varvara Khanenko National Museum of Art and the National Andrei Sheptytsky Museum in Lviv. This year the museums of Kyiv, Dnipro, and Zaporizhia, as well as of Cherkasy, Kirovohrad, Rivne, Lviv, Ternopil, Zakarpattia, Luhansk, Poltava, Chernihiv, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Khmelnytsky oblasts have joined the action. They include the museums of art, local lore, and memorial museums, and the employees promise prizes to the authors of the best photos.

It is allowed to take photos and videos everywhere, but the museum employees ask the visitors to avoid using selfie sticks and flashes, because they may damage the items. This entertainment enables everyone to show their creativity, treating a serious exposition with humor. Also to look at pictures, sculptures, and other items from a different angle, and keep selfie memories about a museum tour.
