This annual artistic competition has been held in Chernihiv oblast since 1995. This year, about 30 musicians from various nooks of Ukraine showed their mastery. The jury, with Professor Volodymyr Ptushkin, composer and chair of Kharkiv Art University’s Department of Composition at the head, included school and college teachers. The festival heard pieces on various themes. It is worthwhile to note that events in Ukraine are prompting children to think seriously. There were a lot of dramatic works with a complex harmonic palette, polyphonic and orchestral compositions, and patriotic songs about Ukraine. “The child’s nature is the only truth in this world. What they compose and feel is the truth,” said Volodymyr Sukhoversky, the festival’s founder and organizer, director of the Chernihiv Levko Revutsky Music School. “The contest is unique in that it helped young people show their high performing skills.”

The winners received awards and valuable gifts. This year, Vitalina Lushchyk, a pupil at the Chernihiv Levko Revutsky Music School’s junior class, was the youngest participant, while Artem Bryl, a 3rd-year student at the same school, won the Grand Prix. This is the second time he wins a high award – last year Artem also won the Grand Prix at the Levko Revutsky Festival-cum-Contest of Young Composers.
