Ten-year old singer Anastasia Petryk earned Ukraine’s first victory at the international song contest “Junior Eurovision.” Since 2003 the contest is held by the European Broadcasting Union. On December 1 on the arena of the Heineken Music Hall in Amsterdam, Netherlands our young singer received the most points – 138 from those watching the contest in 12 participating countries for performing the song “Nebo.” Petryk received the highest number of points from Armenia, Belgium, the Netherlands, Sweden, Belarus, Moldova, and Albania. Georgian band Funkids won the second place with 103 points, and Armenian Compass Band won the third place with 98 points. This year young singers from Sweden, Belgium, Belarus, Azerbaijan, Russia, Israel, Albania, Armenia, Ukraine, Georgia, Moldova, and the Netherlands participated in the contest.

The press service of the National Television and Radio Company of Ukraine reports that Anastasia Petryk was born in the village of Nerubaiske in Odesa oblast. Before taking part in the Eurovision contest she had already won several prestigious music competitions, including the “Children’s New Wave,” “Young Galicia,” and “Black Sea Games.” According to music critics, the secret of the girl’s success is in the not quite childish strong jazz vocal and constant desire to win.

In 2008, Anastasia’s sister Viktoria Petryk represented Ukraine in the “Junior Eurovision” and won the second place.

The President of Ukraine Viktor Yanukovych has already congratulated Petryk on her victory and said that she made her own personal significant contribution to raising the international prestige of our country.
