What needs to be discussed?

Name of the founder and the chairperson of the Ukrainian Fashion Week Iryna DANYLEVSKA periodically appears in The Day’s materials, at least twice a year, when Ukrainian Fashion Week shows take place in Kyiv. However, there is also the other way in which the two are connected: Danylevska has been reading The Day for many years already. That’s why we decided to ask the first woman of fashion in the country about what topics should be discussed in our newspaper.

“I am a longtime fan of The Day. I have always associated this newspaper with objective information, especially about politics, which is very important in present time. My favorite section in this newspaper is the one about culture. Theater and cinema, music (classical, ethnic, pop, and rock), exhibitions and vernissages, museum expositions, and literature – this is the cultural diversity of The Day.

“As you can guess, fashion is also one of my favorite topics. I mean primarily materials about the Ukrainian Fashion Week. However, I would love to see a separate section about fashion.

“I am also pleased with The Day’s new supplement Route No.1. By the way, it is nice that it is published in Ukrainian. Every time this glossy supplement is interesting primarily thematically: In the Land of Pectoral, Ukrainian Bride, World Through the Eyes of a Man, Christmas in Lviv, Opera… It also has interesting design. Therefore, almost every month I hold in my hands a nice guide in jewelry, Ukrainian wedding, men’s world, Christmas Lviv, and world of opera.

“By the way, if one of the next issues of Route No.1 would be dedicated to fashion, I would gladly give an interview about this year’s fashion trends. And not only that. I would give a tour, for example, of designer studios. In fact, designers are incredibly interesting people. And they live not only for fashion. They can talk about films, theater, and music. Ukrainian fashion is made by deep and highly educated people.

“It would also be nice to include, even if it may sound strange, the comments of people who look at fashion not from the aesthetic perspective and view it as a cultural product (personally I believe that fashion is one of the top quality cultural products in Ukraine), but also of those who are engaged in it as a business. I would talk with them about the perspectives. More so, since the Ukrainian fashion appears more and more often in Ukrainian stores and not only abroad.

“I would also write about famous (it goes without saying) and also about young designers in order not to miss something important of what is going on in Ukrainian fashion world.”
