Ostroh Forum 2017

Ostroh Academy stays at the forefront of intellectual proposals. Den/The Day’s readers remember well the Ostroh Free Intellectual Communication Youth Club, which was founded in May 2006 at the suggestion of our editor-in-chief Larysa Ivshyna precisely in Ostroh Academy. Internal Ukrainian integration was the main goal of the club which was implemented by students of universities from all over Ukraine for five years. Then came a pause... And now, at the suggestion of Rector of Ostroh Academy Ihor Pasichnyk, the Ostroh Club got a new breath of life in the form of the international project “Ostroh Forum 2017.”

The forum’s media launch was held on May 16 inside the academy and dealt with “the national security issues of Ukraine.” “Had the Ostroh Club idea found support at the government level back when it started, we would not have the problem that we are facing in eastern Ukraine now,” Pasichnyk said at the opening of the event. “We decided to revive the idea of the club with the Ostroh Forum 2017, which is sure to become just as popular. There was no doubt that media support for this project should come from Den, which supported the Ostroh Club once. I am also sure that the opening of the forum should be done by one of those who laid the foundations of Ukraine’s national security and statehood, I mean Yevhen Marchuk.”

Introducing the next guest, Pasichnyk stated: “As you know, there is a woman behind any project. We do everything to please them. One of such women is Larysa Ivshyna. She has set Den as an example showing what national media should look like, thus shaping the national security of Ukraine.”

Ivshyna, in turn, emphasized the information security and quality of Ukrainian journalism in her speech. “I want Ukraine to have a journalist community governed in its work by knowledge and striving to benefit Ukraine and protect its interests. It is with this particular aim in mind that Den will hold the Summer School of Journalism this year, it being the 15th such event,” she stressed.

The meeting was very informative and involved also founding members of the Ostroh Club, students who came from other universities of this country, and the audience asked many interesting questions. The Forum will be covered in more detail in one of The Day’s forthcoming issues.
