Photo of Exaltation of the Cross Church in Ternopil enters the top ten of the Wikipedia contest

According to the results of the “Wikipedia Loves Monuments-2013” contest, its top ten includes Dmytro Vashchenko’s work The 16th Century Exaltation of the Cross Church on the City Pond, showing Ternopil Church of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Creating Cross of Our Lord, administered by the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church. The people call the church “the pond one.” It was a part of the castle’s fortifications once. In addition to this picture, Ternopil region photographers’ notable works include photos of the Collegium Ensemble in Kremenets, placed 32nd in the contest, and Holy Trinity Castle Church and Crypt in Berezhany, in the 40th place. The winners were selected from 35,710 photos sent by more than 600 participants.

The photo contest “Wikipedia Loves Monuments-2013” was a part of the International Competition Wiki Loves Monuments. It aims to highlight the cultural heritage of different states. Participants upload their photos to Wikimedia Commons. The competition was held for the first time in 2010, organized by the Dutch Wiki community. It went beyond Europe to bring together 35 nations after two years.
