Putin’s regime enters the phase of ultimate transition to repetition of Stalin’s regime
As is known, on May 11 the RF Federal Service of Security detained Oleh Sentsov, a film director and an Automaidan activist, who resides in Simferopol. They accused him of masterminding a terrorist act and have convoyed him to Moscow.
Oleh Sentsov is a talented Ukrainian filmmaker. His debut film Gaamer took part in the prestigious Rotterdam Film Festival, and received an honorable award at the 10th International Film Festival “Spirit of Fire” in Khanty-Mansiysk. Oleh is raising two children: his daughter is 12, and his son, diagnosed with autism, is nine.
The unions of filmmakers of Ukraine and Russia have already demanded to free their colleague. An action in support of the detained director took place near the Russian Embassy in Kyiv.
Unfortunately, there are fears that these appeals, children, and biography, which is apparently far from any kind of terrorism, won’t stop Putin’s people.
It is extremely hard to analyze the motives of ill mind (apparently, the FSB officers don’t have any other), but we can suggest that those who have arrested Oleh and are now framing him have a dim notion of his main profession and festival success. I think that they don’t watch anything more complicated than Russian television and TV series about their service. Oleh for them is above all a free man, an oppositionist, and an enemy by definition. I think they simply want to arrange a demonstrative punishment: they are so far afraid to touch the Crimean Tatars, but a well-known Ukrainian activist, who is not supported by a big national community in the Crimea, is a perfect target. They think if they imprison one to intimidate the rest, the rest will keep silent about their freedom.
It is clear that the occupation power has achieved a diametrically opposite effect. For the style is important here. A well-known director, accusation of terrorism, does not this remind you of anything? Yes: in 1937 terrorism was a favorite accusation of the then butchers who executed thousands of “terrorists” and “counter-revolutionaries,” including many people of art.
No matter how the Sentsov case ends (hopefully he will be justified and released), today it is absolutely clear that Putin’s regime, having put away the trumpery, has entered the phase of ultimate transition to a caricature repetition of Stalin’s regime. Bloodthirsty ghosts rise from historical oblivion, but on their way to surface they turn into clowns that are not funny. Of course, they will ruin many lives, but the marionette television has forgotten to tell them bad news: nobody is afraid of them anymore.
