According to the US Defense Department’s information, Iran has launched air strikes against “Islamic State” targets in eastern Iraq, Pentagon spokesman Rear Admiral John Kirby said. In his words, the US military, which also deliver air strikes against Jihad fighters in Iraq, do not coordinate their actions with the Iranian side. Representatives of Iran’s military leadership also dismiss any coordination of the hostilities.

According to the Pentagon, Iran has deployed F4 Phantom fighter-bombers. Since August 2014, the US-led military coalition has launched hundreds of air strikes against the positions of ISIS fighters. Yet the US officials believe that “it would be inappropriate” for Iran, which has no diplomatic relations with the US, to join this coalition, even though the two countries have ISIS as a common enemy.
