Prime Minister Orban booed in Budapest

This Sunday, in Budapest, during the festive speech at the National Day, Viktor Orban, Hungary’s Prime Minister, was booed by the crowd that demanded his immediate resignation. The quarrel between the demonstrators and the government supporters escalated into a fight, the policemen interfered. Several people were injured. According to Radio Liberty, the anniversary of the national revolution of 1848-49 was marked by the opposition-organized demonstrations of civil disobedience in the center of Budapest, amounting to more than 10,000 people. The protesters chanted “Orban, go away!”, “New Hungary Republic!”, “Enough of Fidesz lies” and others. The opponents call Orban “Putin’s little brother” for his pro-Russian politics, and accuse him of underhanded deals. The EU criticizes the incumbent government for curtailing democracy and adopting laws that violate EU regulations.
