Straw Poll on the Street

18 September, 00:00

The all-Ukrainian youth association, Youth Is Ukraine’s Hope, has recently announced the overall results of its so-called street elections held over the past year in Ukraine’s major cities of Kyiv, Simferopol, Odesa, Poltava, Donetsk, Dnipropetrovsk, Sumy, Chernihiv, Vinnytsia, Cherkasy, Rivne, and Lutsk. Our compatriots showed almost the same electoral preferences in practically all the cities surveyed, with the Communist Party of Ukraine traditionally leading (except for Odesa and Kyiv, where the majority cast their votes, respectively, for the Social Democrat Party of Ukraine (united) and Yushchenko’s Our Ukraine bloc) with the SDPU(o) ranking second; and the National Salvation Forum (NSF), Socialist Party of Ukraine, Our Ukraine, and the Greens elbowing each other, as a rule, for third place. Here are the average annual results of this survey: first KPU (19.3%), second SDPU(o) (16.5%), third Our Ukraine (12.6%), fourth the Greens (12%), and fifth the NSF (7.7%), reports Natalia TROFIMOVA, The Day.
