Last Missile Silo Destroyed In Khmelnytsky Oblast

20 July, 00:00
The Saturday before last, a powerful explosion thundered on the outskirts of the picturesque village of Parkhomivtsy, Khmelnytsky district. What once was a missile silo went high into the air and dropped to the ground. "The last such facility has been liquidated on the territory of our land. It turned out there had been ninety of them," press-service chief of the Khmelnytsky Oblast State Administration Liudmyla Zan told The Day. In honor of the Parkhomivtsy silo being the last fulfilled point in the program of Ukraine's nuclear disarmament, a modest metal monument has been erected, at the place where a nuclear-armed state has finally buried its glory. The object symbolizes farewell to what was called the USSR's "reliable nuclear shield," The Day's Mykhailo VASYLEVSKY reports.
