July 13 1944.  Soviet troops liberated Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania, from the Nazis.

1945.  The Ukrainian SSR Council of People's Commissars and the Central Committee of the Communist Party (bolshevik) of Ukraine resolved to establish the Academy of Architecture of the Ukrainian SSR.

July 14 1714. The Russian Navy routed a Swedish squadron off Ъland Island.

1927. The Council of People's Commissars of the Ukrainian SSR resolved to establish seaside preserves on the Black and Azov Sea coasts.

July 15 1410.  The Polish-Lithuanian-Ukrainian troops routed Teutonic Knights in the Battle of GrЯnwald.

1920.  The Kyiv Higher Institute of Public Education (now M. Drahomanov Ukrainian State Pedagogical University) was established.

July 16 1812.  Russia and England concluded a treaty by which their 1807-1812 war ended and England pledged to assist Russia in the war against Napoleon.

1990.  The Supreme Council of the Ukrainian SSR adopted the Declaration of State Sovereignty of Ukraine.

July 17 1918.  The last Russian Emperor Nicholas II and his family were executed in Yekaterinburg by decision of the Urals Oblast Council of Soviets with Moscow's foreknowledge and approval.

1995.  The Ukrainian-Belarus Treaty on Friendship, Good-Neighborly Relations, and Cooperation was signed.

July 18 1812.  Britain, Sweden, and Russia concluded a treaty on joint action in the war against Napoleonic France.
