In September the theater goes on tour with the opera The Flying Dutchman (the event will take place as a part of celebration of Richard Wagner’s 200th anniversary). The tour was initiated by the German Embassy in Ukraine, and the general partner of the event is the SKM Company. Residents of “South Palmira” will be the first to see the unique production of the Donetsk theater (on September 6 and 7).

The administration of the Donbass Opera made a great effort to adapt the production to the individual characteristics of the stage and auditorium in each of the three opera houses in cities on tour. Therefore, the audience will see the production the way it was conceived by the German director Mara Kurotschka: family wedding photo that “comes alive,” rough element, underwater kingdom, and a ghost ship that drifts in the sea (the unique set design in 3D was made by artists Momme Hinrich and Torge Moeller from Germany).

Two international sets of opera singers prepare to perform the main parties. On September 6 bass-baritone from Germany, graduate of the Stuttgart Conservatory Andreas Macco will perform the part of the Dutchman, soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine Lesia Alekseieva will perform the part of Senta, Austrian Walter Fink – the part of Daland, and the part of Eric will be performed by the soloist of the Donbass Opera Vitalii Kozin. This cast of singers presented the premiere of The Flying Dutchman on Donetsk stage on December 8, 2012 with great success.

On September 7 the Odesa audience will hear a different set of vocalists. Thus, the part of the Dutchman will be performed by the baritone from Germany Stephan Stoll, Senta – Donbass Opera diva Tetiana Plekhanova, Daland – Yurii Aleksiichuk, Eric – David Yim from Germany.

On both September 6 and 7 the maestro of Mariinsky Theater Mikhail Sinkevich (Russia) will be taking the conductor’s stand.

Lviv audience will see and hear the opera on September 12 and 13 performed by the same set of vocalists, while the conductor’s stand will be taken by the chief conductor of the Donbass Opera, graduate of Mykola Lysenko National Musical Academy in Lviv Vasyl Vasylenko.

On September 27 and 28 opera The Flying Dutchman will be presented at the National Opera of Ukraine in Kyiv. In late November the production will go on tour to Wagner’s homeland – Germany. Hopefully, the German audience will appreciate the production of their countrymen, the proper actors’ play, and the vocal parts performed by soloists and actors of the Donbass Opera.

Because of the tour the new theater season in Donbass Opera will begin a month later and will open with the 20th International Festival “Stars of World Ballet,” founded by the artistic director of the theater Vadym Pysariev. The festival will be held from October 4 until October 11 and will present the ballets Romeo and Juliet by Sergei Prokofiev, Giselle by Adolphe Adam, Don Quixote by Ludwig Minkus, legendary show of Rasta Thomas Bad Boys of Dance, and gala concerts with leading soloists of the ballet companies of Bolshoi Theater, Mariinsky Theater, Mikhailovsky Theater, Boris Eifman Ballet Theater (Saint Petersburg), and the Russian Ballet led by Vyacheslav Gordeev, et al.
