The grand opening was held at Donetsk Prokofiev Regional Philharmonic Hall. The regional state administration’s department of information policy and press quoted deputy governor Olena Petriaieva as saying: “We will hold many events dedicated to the Bard of Ukraine’s 200th birth anniversary. They will involve various fields. Our goal is to draw attention to the great son of the Ukrainian people. We also want to instill into people of all ages and professions love for the Ukrainian language and the beautiful poetry of Taras Shevchenko.”

To celebrate the anniversary of the poet, Donetsk specialists developed a tourist route which includes visiting Literary and Art Museum of Taras Shevchenko in Donetsk Regional Universal Research Library. Come February, Donetsk Regional Art Museum will open an exhibition dedicated to the Bard. Theaters prepare several events for the anniversary of Shevchenko, among them the premiere concert performance of opera Taras’s Path, composed by Honored Artist of Ukraine, Prokofiev Award laureate Oleksandr Rudiansky from Donetsk. In late January, ethnographic exhibition “All Flows and All Passes – This Goes on Forever” opened at Donetsk Regional Local History Museum, featuring items from the private collection of Larysa Tarampii. The exhibition presents parts of folk costumes once worn by Ukraine’s ethnic groups living from Transcarpathia and Bukovyna to Tavria and Sloboda Ukraine, over 100 exhibits in total, dating from the late 19th and early 20th centuries. They include women, men, and children’s shirts, many towels, bags, belts, dresses, decorated cornices and tablecloths.
