Concentration of Ukrainian thought

Den/The Day presents its new book series “Armor-Piercing Political Writing.” Our stand has the number 335
13 September, 00:00

On September 12 the 19th Publishers Forum started in Lviv. This is the most prestigious book event of the country. It practically opens the new (autumn) publishing season. Over 400 actions will take place during four days, the most important ones include the Literary Festival, Schultz-Fest, projects Kontekst and “TRANSLIT,” “From Skovoroda to Skovoroda,” and the Business Forum. Over thousand of Ukrainian and foreign publications will present their new books and bestsellers of the recent years.

The Day sticks to its tradition, publishing every year a new book for the library project of the newspaper edited by Larysa Ivshyna. This time it will be the series of 15 pocket-size books “Armor-Piercing Political Writing.” It was created according to the following principle: our contemporaries, including noted literary critics, culture experts, historians, and public figures introduce the classics, say, Petro Kraliuk presents Mykola Kostomarov, Andrii Hryhorenko – his father Petro Hryhorenko, Serhii Kot – Oleh Olzhych, Volodymyr Lys – Ulas Samchuk, Rostyslav Semkiv – Mykola Khvyliovy, Oxana Pachlovska – Yevhen Malaniuk, Volodymyr Panchenko – George Shevelov, and Stanislav Kulchytsky – Ivan Lysiak-Rudnytsky. All of our contemporaries prove in a well-argumented way why the works of the political writers they present are still topical. You might have guessed that the summary is that history has an ability to repeat itself.

“The series ‘Armor-Piercing Political Writing’ is simply a treasure for contemporary sociopolitical and intellectual life of the country,” says candidate of historical sciences, chairman of board of the Oleh Olzhych Foundation Serhii KOT. “The reason is that it embraces the best pieces of Ukrainian political writing of the 19th-20th centuries. And political writing is a well-thought, deep response of intellectual and talented part of the society to the problems, challenges, and tasks faced by the society at every stage. In a sense, ‘Armor-Piercing Political Writing’ encompasses the whole history of Ukraine with all of its problems, it is a concentration of Ukrainian thoughts on how key figures offered to resolve them. These views have a great breadth: from deep historical excursuses to speculations on the current situation, including the future prospects of our state. We all know that history can repeat itself. So, to prevent history from repeating itself first as an event, and then – as a farce, like a famous saying goes, we need to attentively reread this series. It contains numerous answers to the questions of the present day.”

Actually, the editor-in-chief wrote in her “Word to Readers”: “Read with a pencil.”

The series is available for purchase at the Artists’ Palace, the venue of the fair. (You can purchase the books separately or in a set, all 15 at at time.) The number of our stand is 335. And the launch of the “Armor-Piercing Political Writing” will take place on September 14 at 4 p.m. in Potocki Palace (Mirror Hall).
