1868: Prosvita Society is founded in Lviv.

1904: Date of birth of Pavlo Zholtovsky, Ukrainian art critic with a Ph.D. in arts, author of numerous scholarly works and newspaper articles.

1941: Komintern Tractor Works, evacuated to the Urals after Nazi Germany’s invasion of the USSR, puts out 25 T-34 tanks.

1991: The political leaders of Ukraine, Russia, and Belarus sign the Belovezhskaya Pushcha accords, establishing the Commonwealth of Independent States in place of the fallen Soviet Union.
