Sept. 16 1651: The Ukrainian Cossacks launch an uprising in Bila Tserkva to demonstrate their dissatisfaction with the terms of the treaty signed with the Polish Kingdom.
1914: The first Ukrainian Sich Riflemen in the Austro-Hungarian army swear allegiance to the struggle for Ukraine’s liberation.
Sept. 17 1939: Red Army units cross the Soviet-Polish frontier and enter Western Ukraine and Western Belarus.
1989: The first Chervona ruta Ukrainian song festival is launched in Chernivtsi.
Sept. 18 1640: A church council convened in Kyiv adopts the catechism of the “Orthodox confession of the faith.”
1996: Ukraine’s Ministry of External Economic Relations and Trade adopts regulations on barcodes for goods made in Ukraine.
Sept. 19 1941: The Headquarters of the Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces of the USSR orders Soviet troops to retreat from Kyiv after 72 days of defensive operations.
1991: Kyiv-Mohyla Academy is revived in Kyiv.
Sept. 20 1919: The army of the Ukrainian National Republic and Nestor Makhno’s partisan units sign an agreement to fight Denikin’s army.
1975: The Kuban, Ukraine’s largest oil tanker, is launched at the Kerch Shipyard.
Sept. 21 1841: A medical faculty is founded at Kyiv University (today’s Bohomolets Ukrainian State Medical University).
1993: The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine accepts Prime Minister Leonid Kuchma’s resignation and releases him from his official duties.
Sept. 22 1943: The Soviet Southwestern and Southern fronts complete their Donbas offensive, which results in the liberation of this region.
1993: Ukraine’s Ministry of Justice registers the All-Ukrainian Association of Entrepreneurs (VOP).
