Third World Forum of Ukrainians: Program Outlined, Slogans Sought

The Third World Forum of Ukrainians dedicated to the tenth anniversary of Ukraine’s independence will be held this year from August 10 to 24. On January 22, 2001 the organizing committee, comprised of representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Cabinet of Ministers, and Verkhovna Rada, along with the heads of community organizations of Ukraine and Ukrainian diaspora, was set up. The organizing committee was headed by President Leonid Kuchma. On March 5 the schedule of the major activities was approved.

On August 10-17 the first stage of the forum will be held in Lviv oblast as Ukrainian youth organizations members will meet with diaspora representatives, and athletic camps for young people will be set up in the Carpathians. The second stage of the forum will be held in Kyiv. Two representatives from each of 225 Ukrainian diaspora organizations will participate in the forum with the total of about 1500 participants.

Among the possible options for forum concept slogans suggested by the organizing committee members are youth, the hope of the nation or Ukrainians for Ukraine.

As member of the forum organizing committee and West Ukrainian Youth Congress President Yuri Kryvoruchko states, for the first time young people from Ukrainian diaspora, who currently reside in 43 countries will be invited to participate in the forum, reports Lesia SHAPOVAL, The Day.
