One of the Hundred Most Valuable Places of Interest in the World is Located in Kamyanets-Podilsky
Zamkovy Mist (castle bridge) in the old town of Kamyanets-Podilsky has been recognized one of the most valuable hundred places of interest in the world. “In the list of UNESCO, which passed this good news on to us, Zamkovy Mist rates number 86,” Vira Chekhovska, head of the town executive committee press service, told The Day’s Mykhailo VASYLEVSKY. Ms. Chekhovska recalled that this event was preceded by a sensation: after studying the bridge elements, scholars proved that the bridge had been constructed well before Columbus discovered America. However, the scholarly discussions still continue, because there are some who believe that Zamkovy Mist dates back to the times of the Roman Empire. As far as the Americas are concerned, they used there the bridge construction experience, acquired in Kamyanets-Podilsky. Early this century Yotko Narkevych, suspected in a revolutionary activity, was forced to emigrate from Podillia to the USA, where he created the best project and built one of the bridges across the Hudson River. And the Zamkovy Mist will finally be restored. “The new status of this structure guarantees that the restoration work will be funded by UNESCO and partially by Ukraine,” said Ms. Chekhovska, winding up the conversation. The necessity to carry out such kind of work had arisen long ago: time is destroying this landmark.
