Revelations of an expressionist

The Dim Mykoly Gallery (Mykola’s House) is hosting a solo exhibit of works by the Lviv-based artist Alla Honcharuk. Although her paintings are extremely diverse, they are by no means a careless mixture of styles or experiments that sometimes become the ultimate goal. Honcharuk’s work is a logical and supremely honest and uncompromising search for answers to questions whose magnitude is evident even in the titles of her pictures: “Death of a Human,” “Fallen Angel,” “The Life of Maria,” and “Musicians.” The works of this Lviv artist are rightly considered a continuation of the traditions of German expressionism. They are distinguished by clarity and laconic expression, while their solemn, but not reverential, monumentality imparts a symbolic meaning to everything, be it a heavenly event or a country dance.
