Poland Will Not Tighten Border Controls
According to Poland’s National Security and Defense Council Secretary Marek Siwec, Poland does not anticipate tightening control on the border with Ukraine as a result of the terrorist attacks in the USA. He stressed that, since Poland is working to join the EU, it is preparing to introduce in future a visa requirement on the border with Ukraine. “We work in two main directions. First, we want to convince our western partners that the introduction of the visa entry routine will not freeze interpersonal contacts with Ukraine. Second, in introducing visas, we are looking for an option that will least affect the common people. Third, we have begun negotiations with Ukraine to have it reinforce its borders with countries not participating in the Schengen Agreement, which will lay the foundation for lifting the visa requirement between Ukraine and the EU in the future,” Poland’s NSDC secretary said.
