DENYS SYLANTIEV: "LET THEM FEAR ME!"

24 марта, 00:00
Denys Sylantiev, a 21-year-old Spartak Club swimmer from Zaporizhzhia, won the world championships in Perth, Australia, this February. His victory remains the event of the year in Ukrainian sports life, for the young man brought Ukraine's first world swimming trophy since the proclamation of independence. Remarkably, Ukraine's first Olympic swimming gold medal was pocketed by Serhiy Fesenko (1980), also in the 200-meter butterfly event.

Sylantiev, however, intends to go further. In the first round of the 1998 World Cup competition in Hong Kong he won two classic races, clocking 52:37 sec in 100 meter and 1:55.82 in the 200. He wants a third World Cup. Quite ambitious and praiseworthy.
