WILL OMELCHENKO RETIRE AFTER EBRD MEETING?
Before the high guests began to arrive in Ukraine, the head of the city state administration was elected chairman of the City Council. Oleksandr Lavrynovych, deputy chairman of the Parliamentary Committee for Legal Policy announced: “Neither the Constitution nor any other law on local self-government and deputies’ elections say that the City Council session can elect a chairman.” According to him, the mayor should be elected only according to the law on the state capital. However, this law has not been yet signed by the President.
Omelchenko declined comment on rumors that the President will free him from his post of city administration head on May 18 and appoint someone with high chances to win the city mayoral elections, which are slated for September. At present Omelchenko is busy organizing the annual meeting of EBRD representatives.
