Ukrainian athlete Hanna Melnychenko is a world champion in heptathlon

Ukrainian athletes won their first prize at the World Championship in Athletics held in Moscow on August 13. Hanna Melnychenko became world champion in heptathlon according to noc-ukr.org. Melnychenko took the lead already on the first day of the competition and didn’t let go of the first position. She set a personal record in high jump – 1.86 meters and showed her best results of the season in the long jump and javelin throwing – 6.49 meters and 41.87 meters respectively.

Ukrainian athlete scored the total of 6,586 points, which also is her personal achievement. President of the National Olympic Committee Serhii Bubka congratulated Melnychenko and coaches on championship title and wished to continue athletic traditions of Ukraine in the future ever so brightly.
